Adoption Counselor
Like I said in my first post, my passion since I was a little girl has been all about helping animals. Due to this reason, I have spent three hours almost every Tuesday night since I was 10 years old at the animal shelter. 🐾
At the shelter, I am an adoption counselor. This is by far my favorite position ever! I get to love on the animals, help get them ready for their furever homes, and help to find those furever homes. It is the greatest feeling to get the animals adopted out to loving families.
I feel like the best connections are when the animals pick the owners and not the other way around. I have been able to facilitate many unexpected adoptions. So many people come out with a specific animal in mind, which is great to know what you want! Unfortunately, sometimes there isn't a great connection between the animal and the potential family, so this is where I step in to help find them an animal where there is a better connection. At times, I feel I can pick the right animal for the family that they didn't have in mind or an animal that they didn't expect to have a connection with. A lot of the time, it seems like these unexpected connections are with our pits because so many people think they are "dangerous." 🤷
So here are a few pics of my favorite babies to pass through the shelter, and yes, all of these babies were adopted out!

Those pictures are so cute! I have always wanted to work or volunteer at animal shelters, but I have learned that I am way too emotional of a person for that work. I would want to take all of the animals home with me! It's so awesome what you're doing and how much you're helping those animals. I think that every animal deserves to live the best life possible! I can see why relationships work better if the animal chooses the owner, they show an immediate interest and it just works out better.
ReplyDeleteFirst, I love the pictures, they are so cute! Second, I love the work that you do at the animal shelters by being a counselor. Having a niche to pair up the perfect animal with a family that will be loving and caring towards him/her is an amazing gift that I'm glad you are using
ReplyDeleteOmg I love dogs! I am so happy those dogs are adopted! I love that you are an adoption counselor, I think that is such a helpful and impactful job. I agree with you, it is super important that the animal gets along with the family lifestyle before being adopted, or else it will be an unhealthy relationship for both sides. I love animals so much, I have such a soft spot in my heart for them so I will definitely be reading your blog every week!
